Rahul Dravid submitted his resignation from the post of Indian Skipper on friday literally stunning quite a lot of people. according to BCCI Rahul Dravid met Sharad Pawar on september the 13th and expressed his desire to end his two The reason behind the resignation as stated by Rahul Dravid is to concentrate more on his batting. Which we all know has not been great recently and has come under tremendous criticism. Dravid managed only 126 runs in the three Tests at an average of 25.

Dravid who is now 34 years of age has scored an average of 56.5 in 112 tests and a total of 9,492 runs, Dravids total is only bettered by Brian Lara, Allan Border, Tendulkar, Steve Waugh and Sunil Gavaskar, in ODI's hes scored 10,534 runs from 327 matches.

Rahul Dravid has specifically stated in his resignation letter that he should not be considered as Indian Captain for the upcoming series against Australia. BCCI sources stated that they believe they have enough time to come up with a new skipper for team india. Sachin, Ganguly and Sehwag are all being considered for the post. Whether BCCI will choose to stick on with the rather experienced players to lead the team or whether they'll choose to groom new talents is to be seen.

If we compare dravids performance as captain and as a batsman we could see that there's a huge difference in the figures. even his test average of 56.2 from 112 mathces has come down to 44.5 when he was captain. dravid has managed only four centuries as skipper from 45 innings which included 6 occassions when he was unbeaten. But when it comes to ODI's its an entirely different scenario where his average as captain stands at 42.2 is 2 points more than his carrier average of 40 as a batsman.

Appointing sachin or ganguly or any other senior player has the advantageof their experience and also that new players could learn from them. Appointing youngsters as skipper has the advantage that team india need not look for a new captain anywhere in the near future and also that the senior players could actually guide the new captain to perfection. The new indian skipper will be announced on september the 18th.

Lets wait and watch who the BCCI will now think fit to take the baton...
